Payroll Outsourcing Did Wonders for My Company

When I became a business owner I was all psyched about making my dreams come true as a small coffee shop owner with a quaint establishment in the middle of our downtown area. I have lived in my town since I was a little girl, minus the seven years I went away to college and grad school, but I returned because I love the majestic mountains that surround my town on all sides, the natural landscape and people are amazing.

After finishing grad school I got a job in town at a local coffee shop. I know. Who goes to grad school to work in a coffee shop or some? I have always been a firm believer that one’s happiness is the greatest measure of who a person is not their degrees or bank account. For me, working in the local coffee shop was a dream come true because I was able to talk to smart people all day while serving up brew for the locals. It was an exhilarating time for me. Over the years, I rose in stature from a mere barista to the manager of the coffee shop and when the owners began talking about selling the shop to a national chain I asked if I could buy the shop from them and keep everything local.

I had money saved up from having a rich grandfather (what can I say!) and bought the coffee shop and made it my own. I was thrilled and so were the regulars. They had been hearing buzz that the former owners were going to sell their prime location in town to a national chain and no one wanted that to happen. We wanted everything to remain pristine as it had always been with sweets brought in from area bakeries and an emphasis on fair trade coffee and tea. Luckily for me, the owners were willing to see their coffee shop to me and in a matter of about a month I went from being a manager of a store to being an owner. Luckily for me, over the past ten years I have been able to branch my company out from the town I live in to ten coffee shops all across my state. I am happy to report that business is good, even if this failing economy though I am working hard to keep people coming back through stellar customer service.

With ten stores I needed help with my employees so I decided to take advantage of a PEO company that took care of everything for me from my employee handbook to my payroll services. As someone who needs to constantly think about the success of my business it is difficult for me to wear two hats. Although I am a master multi-tasker, I cannot be owner of my coffee franchise and be director of human resources all at the same time. For human resources, I contracted a PEO company to handle the administrative details of my employees. Paychecks were cut on time, employees were able to receive health benefits, if they wanted it, and if they had any questions at all, they could talk to someone at the company I hired for payroll services.

Lifting the burden of administrative requirements out of my everyday business made my life easier and consequently allowed me to concentrate on growing my one local coffee shop to many. I think it was a smart move on my part to hire a payroll outsourcing company. It was far less expensive than creating my own human resources department, plus the services they provide is far better than anything I could do in-house.
